In memory of Steve, Helston Rugby Club has embraced the values of support and community. After Steve's tragic loss to suicide, the club rallied around his son Jack, showing the true essence of rugby. This support inspired Jack, who is now 16, to raise £2,000 by running five miles daily for a month, benefiting the mental health charity Looseheadz.
Moreover, the rugby community's kindness extended to Jack's family, as they were invited to watch the All Blacks train, a testament to the rugby family's enduring support.
Jack's mother, Leigh, has transformed her gratitude into action by setting up a Men's Mental Health Support Group through her charity, The Sparkle Foundation UK. This group, attended by local rugby players, offers structured therapy sessions to address mental health challenges and the importance of not feeling alone.
The Sparkle Foundation UK also supports the local community, turning Helston Rugby Club into a truly inclusive space. They host diabetic clinics and provide meals to those in need. The club's commitment to the community has been made possible with the help of various sponsors and supporters.
Rachel Miller, RFU club developer, praises Helston Rugby Club for their proactive approach to mental health challenges and therapy support. This legacy in honor of Steve is a testament to the positive impact of rugby.
